Music That Inspired Me As I Wrote Becoming Fire and Lightning

Music fuels the imagination. Here are some of the songs that inspired me as I wrote Becoming Fire and Lightning. There are also tons of other worship songs I’ve listened to throughout the years that brought inspiration.

Note For Christian Authors: Worship brings God’s presence into the place where we are because He inhabits the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3) and His anointing removes burdens and breaks yokes of bondage (Isaiah 10:27). By worshiping God from our heart in spirit and truth (in line with the Word of God for God’s Word is truth (John 17:17), we are entering God’s presence and removes our eyes from ourselves. In these moments we are in a receptive position for the Holy Spirit to inspire us.

Kemper Krabb: The Vigil Album, but especially the songs “The Vigil”, “Doulos”, “Tannin”: This album inspired me to make Michael a knight and “The Vigil” led to me make drinking from a fiery chalice to become an El’esh.

Toby Mac: “Burn For You”: This song inspired me during the fight scene in the first chapter and to make Michael a flaming knight.

The Immediate: Trailerhead Album, but especially the songs “Age of Discovery”, “An Epic Age”: These songs gave me ideas for fight scenes.

Crowder: “Rain Down”: This song inspired me during the fight scene in the first chapter.

Andy Park: “The River Is Here”: This song led me to create Eímai’s rivers with their supernatural attributes.
