Vidarr

JHCadminAras 7 Races

The Vidarr consist of five clans: lions, tigers, cheetahs, lynx, and clouded leopards. This is a warrior and honor-based race and prowess in battle is held in high esteem. Each species of cat wields a specific weapon. Every Vidarr warrior must be proficient in all five weapons, but they are experts with their racial weapon. The use of claws in combat is forbidden. Using one’s claws in combat is seen as a behavior befitting a Sibi.

Appearance: Vidarr look like their counterparts on Earth, except they are larger and stand on their hind paws. When they are not wearing their mottled brown armor, they are dressed in long tunics and kilts made of bright cloth mixed with leather. A warrior and honor-based race, it is rare to see a Vidarr without their clan-focused weapon, i.e. the weapon their clan specializes in. Lions carry halberds with broad curved blades. Tigers wield wide bladed scimitars the size of an average human, usually two at a time, and their scabbards are located on their backs. The clouded leopards carry spears tipped by flat leaf-shaped points and have twin sickle bladed swords strapped to their backs. The cheetahs have four short swords strapped to their backs, two facing up and two facing down, and two strapped to either hip. They also have throwing daggers strapped to their forearms and outside edge of their shins. Lynxes use compound bows and have two rectangular quivers filled with arrows on their backs. They also have orange blood.

Location: Ancestral home is the Great Forest. In the third age the Vidarr separated into two factions and a group moved to the Southern Forest. After the destruction of most of the Great Forest during the Dragon/Drás War the remaining Vidarr split again and a group moved to the Mushroom Forest where they planted a seedling from the Great Forest. The seedling grew into a colossal tree at a fraction of the normal time due to the fertile ground and the constant watering it with Eímai’s water. Wood-shapers hollowed the tree and turned it into an exact replica of one of the trees from the Great Forest. They attempted to plant more seedlings throughout the Mushroom Forest and the surrounding area, but the seedlings died. The  Vidarr living in the Mushroom Forest dwell in the giant mushrooms. The tree is used for administrative purposes and living quarters for their council of elders.

Rearing Young: Cubs and kits are raised by their sires until they reach the Age of Reckoning (approximately age 50). Then they enter military service and training lasts for 30 years and military service lasts for at least 150 years.

Lifespan: The average lifespan without regularly drinking Eímai’s water and eating His fruit is 1,050 years. Due to their unceasing war on Ba’rel’s Legion, it is rare for a Vidarr to enter Eímai’s Rest due to advanced age.

Governance: The Vidarr are ruled by a council of elders and a council of captains. The council consists of one member from each of the cat clans and the council of captains consists of five captains of the Vidarr military and five captains from the Ridarri knightly order.

Attributes/Special Abilities: Eímai gifted the Vidarr with the ability to make themselves invisible. This ability, plus feline agility and tracking skills, makes them a formidable enemy.

Notable Tradition: Before going on a journey a Vidarr will greet the four directional stars in this manner.

The Vidarr finds the eastern star Quedem. It is the only green star in the sky. They raise their right paw and say, “I greet thee, Quedem of the East. Guide me well on my journey.”

They turn to the west, find the purple star Yeem and say with paw raised, “I greet thee, Yeem of the West. Guide me well on my journey.”

Since there are many blue stars in the sky, finding the northern star Tsaepon may be difficult. But when it is found the Vidarr greets it like the others. “I greet thee, Tsaepon of the North. Guide me well on my journey.”

Lastly they turn south to the red star Januub and greet it in similar manner. “I greet thee, Januub of the South. Guide me well on my journey.”
